Start a Business in New York State
NY License Center defines a license as any required permit, registration, or similar form of authorization required by New York State. Examples of businesses requiring licenses are: restaurants, motor vehicle repair shops, beauty salons and barber shops, food establishments, and child day care centers.

Know what license you need? Find a complete list of the licenses and permits currently available through the License Center.
You must have a user ID to apply for a new license or permit or to manage your existing licenses and permits. If you have an existing license, permit or application record, associate your record(s) with your account. Follow the instructions provided under “Records” in your NY License Center Account. To access your records, you will be guided through a security process (takes about 10 minutes). Get started.
Already have a NY.gov ID? For example, that you use to file taxes in New York State, or that you use to renew your driver’s license with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Log in with your NY.Gov ID. If you are acting on behalf of a business, contact your employer for your ID.
